Microchip Technology PCI11414C Single-Chip PCIe Switches

Microchip Technology PCI11414C Single-Chip PCIe Switches integrate a USB 3.2 Gen 2 host controller, an Ethernet MAC, and programmable I/O. The Microchip PCI11414C features PCIe physical interfaces providing a 4‑lane (4×8GT/s) upstream port and a 1‑lane (1×8GT/s) downstream port, supporting maximum line rates of 8GT/s to meet growing demands for higher‑bandwidth PCIe subsystems in embedded applications. The upstream link can operate over one or multiple lanes to optimize system architecture, and the device includes a fully compliant PCIe implementation extending from the external PHY interfaces through the switch fabric and endpoint controllers. PCIe Precision Time Measurement (PTM), compliant with the PCI Express Base Specification R5.0 V1.0, enables accurate timing synchronization between components by determining the relationship between local device clocks and a shared PTM Master Time domain.

The PCI11414C integrates a USB‑IF and xHCI‑compliant USB 3.2 Gen 2 host controller supporting two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type‑C® ports and three USB 2.0 HS/FS/LS Type‑A ports. USB‑C functionality includes management of CC1 and CC2 configuration channels, while Overcurrent Sense (OCS) and Vbus Port Control provide robust power management. Additionally, the device features an IEEE 802.3‑compliant 2.5Gbps Ethernet MAC with RMII, RGMII, and SGMII interfaces supporting 10/100Mbps, 10/100/1000Mbps, and 1/2.5Gbps data rates, respectively, enabling flexible Ethernet connectivity for a variety of embedded applications.

A programmable pin multiplexer allows designers to map I/O functions to package pins using either the default configuration or customized signal routing tailored to the application. Supported functions include USB‑related signals, GPIO, and SMBus, all accessible through a dedicated PCIe Endpoint Controller. Although the device requires multiple internal clocks, these are generated within an integrated clock farm, requiring only a single‑ended 25MHz external clock or crystal and a PCIe reference clock. Software integration is supported through standard abstractions compatible with major operating systems. The Microchip PCI11414C is available in a 164‑pin DQFN package and offered in commercial (0°C to +70°C), industrial (‑40°C to +85°C), and automotive Grade 3 (‑40°C to +85°C) temperature ranges.
