Self-Protecting PTC Thermistors

EPCOS / TDK Self-Protecting PTC Thermistors are suitable for smoothing capacitors in power supplies in the event of a short circuit. These self-protecting PTC thermistors are ideal for high pulse currents and a high number of operating cycles. Inrush current limiters are not damaged when directly connected to Vmax, even without additional current limitation. Applications for EPCOS / TDK Self-Protecting PTC Thermistors include inrush current limiters (charging resistors) for smoothing and DC link capacitors and for the replacement of high-power fixed resistors for capacitor charging.

PTC Thermistors

EPCOS PTC Thermistors are thermally sensitive semiconductor resistors made of ceramic components whose electrical resistance rapidly increases when a certain temperature is exceeded. This feature makes EPCOS PTC Thermistors ideal for use in electrical and electronic engineering applications, for example as resettable fuses against current overload or as short circuit protection in motors. Applications include measurement and control engineering, entertainment, household, and automotive electronics, and data systems and telecommunications.

Thermistors

EPCOS / TDK Thermistors include negative temperature coefficient (NTC) and positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistors. The NTC thermistors offer a nickel barrier termination and long-term stability in high-temperature and high-humidity environments. The PTC series features thermally sensitive semiconductor resistors made of ceramic components in which electrical resistance rapidly increases when a certain temperature is exceeded. EPCOS / TDK Thermistors provide voltage and noise suppression as well as temperature measurement and compensation in measurement and control engineering, entertainment, household and automotive electronics, data systems, and telecommunications applications.

B594 Leaded Disk AEC-Q200 PTC Thermistors

EPCOS / TDK B594 Leaded Disk AEC-Q200 PTC Thermistors can replace high-power fixed resistors for capacitor charging and feature overcurrent and short-circuit protection, and inrush current limiting. These inrush current limiters have the advantage of intrinsic safety and are not damaged when directly connected to Vmax, even without additional current limitations. For example, if a short circuit should occur within a device when it is switched on, the component very quickly limits the current to non-critical values. Typical applications include converters and power supplies for industrial and household electronics. The series is also ideal for e-mobility, including onboard charging circuits and the charging and discharging of DC link capacitors in the drives of hybrid and electric vehicles. The B594 series of leaded disk components offer rated voltages of between 260VAC and 560VAC. Depending on the type, the rated resistances are between 25Ω and 1100Ω. These protection devices have been approved in accordance with UL, IECQ, and VDE. The components are RoHS compliant.
